PHOTOGRAPHY HOLIDAYS ON PAXOS
CHRIS GILBERT
“The digital revolution has made photography
accessible to everyone. Introducing aspiring
photographers to the subtleties of more advanced
photographic technique and through it enabling
individual artistic expression is a hugely
enjoyable experience.”
Chris Gilbert’s photography is often compared to
painting, which is not surprising, as he was
inspired by the world around him from a very
early age and starting painting landscapes when
he was just 12. He bought his first SLR camera
in 1981 and recognised immediately that the
camera was far better suited than a paintbrush
to the way that he wanted to depict the
landscape.
Chris continued with both painting and
photography until 2004 when digital
cameras started to achieve a degree of
image quality that made them compete
favourably with film. Having a
professional background in IT, meant
that Chris was immediately at home in
the digital imaging world, and in 2006
he decided to focus his time and
energies on the one thing that had
inspired him since his childhood, the
landscape. He spent the next two years
further developing and refining his
photography skills, and developing his
own theories on photography and art.

Chris has now been exhibiting and selling his
images, and teaching landscape photography for a
number of years, and in 2009 he was short-listed
for the Take-A-View Landscape Photographer of
the Year. His main passion is to teach
others to do the same and he is delighted to be
running a course on Paxos in Summer 2011.
Chris lives and works in Derbyshire, in the
middle of the Peak District National Park, with his wife Jane. He is a keen
walker and still loves to paint whenever he has
the opportunity.
You can see examples of Chris’s pictures and
