CREATIVE WRITING COURSES ON PAXOS
‘LIVING THE DREAM - MAKING MONEY FROM YOUR
HOLIDAYS':
30 SEPTEMBER - 7 OCTOBER 2013
Whether
you just want to pen a few pieces about your
holidays for the local newspaper, fancy having
your own travel blog or would like to set about
becoming a travel writer in earnest, this
course, led by highly successful travel writer
and photographer, Heidi Fuller-love, will give you the
starting blocks to build your travel writing
skills and find a relevant outlet to see your
work in print.
Twenty years ago Heidi Fuller-love
was a London comedy club owner with a theatre
degree, then she moved to France to open her own
hotel and started writing about her adopted
country's cuisine and culture for various
Francophile magazines. Today she lives between
France and Greece, travels for six months of the
year
and is a highly successful travel and food
writer, who hosts a monthly travel show for
British Airways in-flight radio and whose features and photographs regularly appear in magazines and newspapers worldwide
ranging from The Guardian and The LA Times, to
Thomas Cook Travel magazine and Asian
Geographic. Heidi can’t promise miracles, but
she does guarantee that, whether you’re a hobby
writer who’d like to pen articles about your
holidays and see those articles published
locally, or a keen traveller who wants to earn
extra money from doing what they love, this
course will give you a major boost in the right
direction.
The course will be based around group tuition sessions on
five mornings a week and there will also be an
opportunity for one-to-ones. Afternoons will be
free, leaving plenty of time to carry on
writing, explore Paxos or simply relax. During
the week the course will cover:
-
how to find out what sells and then identify
what you can write about
(you will be asked to bring with you to
Paxos one or two copies of the
magazines/newspapers where you hope to see
your work published so that Heidi can focus
on these with you during the course)
-
getting started (organising your office,
finding useful contacts etc)
-
writing a pitch (research skills, finding an
angle etc)
-
writing on the road (how to stay in touch,
what to take, how to get organised,
researching and selling features before you
go etc)
-
how to contact editors and give them what
they want
-
useful resources to help you climb the
learning curve
-
finding markets, more information and useful
resources
-
providing relevant photos that will help you
sell your articles and make more money
and you will leave the course with one or
several complete articles, and detailed ideas of
newspapers or magazines that could be interested
in publishing your work.
So come and join Heidi for what
promises to be a fun, fascinating and
information-packed week of travel writing.
